چکیده

The influence of the different types of bonding present in a range of carbon based materials is discussed as a precursor to describing the field emission characteristics of carbon cold cathode materials. Some of the controlling factors which govern electron emission from carbon based cathodes are discussed. It is shown that from disordered carbon films the interplay between the clustered sp 2 phase and the insulating sp 3 matrix is important. The transition from a ‘back contact’ to ‘front surface’ controlled emission mechanism is described in terms of the sp 2 content and field penetration. A possible reason for high field enhancement factors found in disordered films also is provided. It is further shown that changes to the sp 2 phase by current stressing can improve the field emission characteristics. Emission from carbon nanotubes is also discussed and the prospects for new types of nanotube – polymer composite based cathodes are also considered.

Flower-like TiO2 nanosructures with exposed {001} facets: Facile synthesis and enhanced photocatalysis

Carbon nanotubes, carbon nanocones, and graphene nanoribbons are carbon-based nanomaterials, and their electronic and field emission properties can be altered by either electron donors or electron acceptors. Among both donors and accepters, nitrogen and boron atoms are typical substitutional dopants for carbon materials. The contribution of this paper mainly provides a comprehensive overview of...

Electron field emission from cluster-assembled carbon thin films

– Cluster-assembled carbon films deposited at room temperature from a supersonic cluster beam are found to be good electron field emitters. The films have been characterized by Raman spectroscopy showing a largely sp bonded character. Scanning Electron Microscopy shows that the films have a low-density granular structure, characterized by voids on the nanoscale. We have observed a threshold fie...

The Synthesized Reduced Graphene Oxide Enhanced the Capacitive Behavior of Activated Carbon/PVA as Potential Electrode Materials

In this work, activated carbon (AC) derived from biomass wastes was implemented as electrode materials in supercapacitor application. This study has adopted rubber seed shell (RSS) wastes to derive AC via pyrolysis process. Meanwhile, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was used as an additive material in order to study the effect of the rGO in capacitive behavior. The synthesized rGO was successfully...

Quantum current modeling in nano-transistors with a quantum dot

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) serve as a new class of ‘zero dimensional’ nanomaterial’s in thecarbon class with sizes below 10 nm. As light emitting nanocrystals, QDs are assembled from semiconductormaterials, from the elements in the periodic groups of II-VI, III-V or IV-VI, mainly thanks to impacts of quantum confinement QDs have unique optical properties such as brighter, highly pho...

Dynamical simulation of field emission in nanostructures

An efficient computational scheme based on the first-principles pseudopotential method is proposed for the electron emission from nanostructures under an applied electric field. The emission rate of the electron through the potential barrier is calculated by integrating the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for the states residing initially inside the emitter. Our approach takes into account ...
